Objectives

The aim of the program is to encourage students to reflect on the world in which they live, the products they consume, their everyday actions and the impact these have on others. The aim is not only to get them thinking, but also to ensure that this thinking gradually translates into action.

Program

Teachers can download lesson plans on different fair trade sectors and bring the topic to their students, either as a complement to a workshop or as a stand-alone classroom activity.

Students will be able to find out more about the issues at stake in the different sectors, as well as the response provided by fair trade and the Fairtrade label.

Lesson plans are available for cocoa, cotton and rose.

Methodological approaches

Design means not just implementing one activity or workshop, as is usually the case, but emphasizing continuity. The Fair Trade theme needs to be gradually introduced into the subjects taught, and teachers also need to be motivated to tackle this complex issue repeatedly. It can indeed be integrated into different subject areas and thus be treated as a whole and in a holistic way. The impact on students, their thematic understanding and their commitment are all the greater if they not only have the time to absorb the information, but also to question it, discuss it with others and exchange impressions and ideas.
