Objectives

  • Raising students' awareness of the various obstacles to access to healthcare in developing countries
  • Help them discover other realities through the stories of children their own age.
  • Encourage them to think about the inequalities in access to healthcare around the world, and help them understand that there is no such thing as a fatality when it comes to healthcare, as solutions do exist.

Program

«Access to healthcare» is an educational kit specially designed for children aged 10 to 12 (primary 5 and 6). It tackles the issue of unequal access to healthcare around the world through comic strips. Pupils will discover that in many countries, obstacles prevent people from accessing healthcare as easily as they do in Luxembourg, and will be prompted to think: what if we encountered the same obstacles in Luxembourg? They will also be asked to find solutions, because inaccessibility to healthcare is not inevitable.

Methodological approaches

The approach to raising awareness and providing information is based on comic strips and fun exercises throughout the brochure. Teachers will also receive an explanatory leaflet (in German or French) on how to use the kit, as well as a complementary brochure on the issue of access to healthcare.

Remarks

The teaching materials made available free of charge to teachers enable them to program activities without the need for an external facilitator. They can be ordered directly from the Médecins Sans Frontières Luxembourg website. The student brochure is available in hard copy in Lëtzebuergesch, but a French version can be downloaded from the website.
