Objectives

The Escape Game «Giele Botter - Die Zeitreisenden» is not only a source of amusement, but also an educational tool in its own right:

  • Raising awareness of nature conservation ;
  • Development of collaborative work, critical thinking and problem solving ;
  • The perfect combination of learning and fun.

Program

The game takes place in the «Giele Botter» nature reserve. Two to three kilometers long, it takes around four hours to complete.

It is suitable for groups of ten years and over. A backpack escape game is designed for a group of 8 to 10 children or teenagers. For larger groups, several backpacks can be provided. The game is only available in German.

On a journey through an old open-pit mine, teams solve riddles at seven different stations, while learning fascinating facts about the environment around them. To progress through the game and discover its secrets, puzzles must be solved cooperatively.

This requires deductive, observational and manual skills on the part of all team members.

Methodological approaches

Youngsters aged 10 to 14 (or over) discover the secrets of the biodiversity, geology and industrial history of the «Giele Botter» nature reserve, and the importance of preserving them.

The game is cooperative: all participants must work together to progress and reach the goal.

No special prior knowledge is required: anyone can play. The game is linear, which means that the puzzles must be solved in a precise order in order to complete it.

Remarks

The activity is not supervised by an external person, but takes place under the supervision of the activity leaders/teachers.

Each group must have an attendant to ensure that no one gets lost and that the game runs smoothly.

Chaperones receive game instructions, GPS data and solutions when they collect their backpacks from Naturschoul Lasauvage or the commune of Dudelange.
