Objectives
The aim of the educational offer is to get children and young people to think about the world they live in, their daily actions and consumption, and their overall impact on the lives of others. The aim is not only to get children and young people to think, but also to ensure that this reflection is reflected in their actions.
Program
This «Chocotastique» teaching pack is based on a wealth of knowledge gathered from the website, our own research and the workshops we offer. The knowledge is well condensed and child-friendly. Pupils aged 8 and over can easily expand their knowledge of cocoa in German.
The cocoa dossier can be used as an introduction to the subject, but also as an intensification after a cocoa workshop. The content covers cultivation, processing and problems.
In addition, games, tasks and texts for children to play and read tackle the subject of cocoa in a fun way.
Methodological approaches
Design means not just implementing one activity or workshop, as is usually the case, but emphasizing continuity. The Fair Trade theme needs to be gradually introduced into the subjects taught, and teachers also need to be motivated to tackle this complex issue repeatedly. It can indeed be integrated into different subject areas and thus be treated as a whole and in a holistic way. The impact on students, their thematic understanding and their commitment are all the greater if they not only have the time to absorb the information, but also to question it, discuss it with others and exchange impressions and ideas.
Instead of a presenter and a passive audience listening to a lecture, the aim is rather to create an offer of participation in which students can contribute to the unfolding of activities with their ideas, creativity and questioning. This approach enables knowledge to be acquired in a stimulating, group-based way, encouraging students throughout the activity or project.
By giving students a voice, they feel that their opinions count, and that no one is excluded from the discussion. Of course, the workshop leader already has in-depth knowledge of the subject, but he or she must remain open to exchange and continue to listen without prejudice.
It's a bottom-up method, starting with the students, in which everyone has their place as an individual, but can also interact within the group. A balance must therefore be struck between the individual and the community, both of which are very important in today's society. Cohesion is indeed of considerable importance, as it shows children and young people that we can create and build many things as a community, that we can observe the birth of unexpected ideas. They also learn that working as a group can be complicated, because we have to understand each other and find compromises to respect each other's expectations and needs. The individual is just as important, and it's essential that every child and young person is valued for his or her actions and commitment. The message is that every person can act, and that every player counts.
