Objectives

In this workshop, offered in collaboration with the NGO Aide à l'Enfance de l'Inde et du Népal, students are to be made aware of their own rights and those of other children, and to become actors in this field themselves. This aspect is central throughout the workshop: students are encouraged to create the content themselves and pass on the subject to their peers.

Program

In order to gain a better understanding of children's rights and the violation of these rights around the world, the students learn about concrete cases from the countries where the organization runs its projects. This is followed by a discussion of their own rights situation in Luxembourg, and their views on what could still be improved.
To enable them to deal with potential problems more concretely, students also receive an introduction to the theme of activism, discovering different forms of commitment and examples of children's rights activism from our project countries.
They also hear from young activists for children's rights, either through a video presenting projects carried out by young people in the Global South, or through direct meetings with young Luxembourgers (for example, from the Youth Parliament, CNEL, move or Jugendrot, etc.) who are invited to talk about their commitment.

In addition to sessions on children's rights and activism, the class itself takes action. Students decide democratically which children's rights they want to reinforce, or which problem they want to help solve.
Once the decision has been made, they divide into groups, and each group carries out a mini-project in line with the common theme.

Alongside the group projects, the class also prepares a collective project: a workshop closing event, during which each group presents its project, ideally in front of other students, so that they in turn become multipliers and raise awareness of their rights among other children.
Thanks to the organization of this event, the class further strengthens its cohesion and learns to put the strengths of each individual to work as a team.

AEIN and KNHL accompany the class throughout the process and provide support for the students, including a list of materials that can be provided or loaned.

After the closing event, a short feedback session is organized where students can share their opinions on the workshop, their projects and the final event.
A final question was also asked: What now? Can the projects be continued or expanded?
Do students want to continue their commitment to children's rights, and if so, how?

This workshop places the students and their rights at the center, using interactive methods. It also aims to show the link between their rights and those of other children, thus fostering empathy and solidarity.

In the version described here, the workshop comprises a minimum of six sessions, but it is also possible to offer an abbreviated version of three sessions, in which case the class will not be able to carry out any concrete projects.
