The Ateliers des Cultures project aims for a tolerant and open society. The Ateliers try to create small spaces where understanding and acceptance of the Other reigns.
Experiences
Les Ateliers des Cultures has been active in the educational and associative fields for nine years. Thousands of students have passed through the ateliers des cultures. The scope of the project grows from year to year. The project has evolved
and adapted to different situations. The project includes workshops of various sizes.
The project takes place in around ten schools each year, culminating in a cultural workshop festival at the Centre Culturel de l'Abbaye de Neumünster. In addition
workshops in associations take place from time to time throughout the year. The partner structures are diverse: they include school hostels, maisons relais, youth centers, associations of third-country nationals, associations supporting the mentally handicapped, associations working with senior citizens, local authorities, and so on.
Each workshop is a project in itself. Depending on the theme chosen and the audience, the workshop will be unique. Various themes have been addressed. As far as Africa is concerned, we work mainly with artists from Togo, Senegal, Liberia, Burkina Faso, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Nigeria. As far as Latin America is concerned, Brazil, Mexico, Bolivia and Colombia are countries that come back regularly, because here too, the resources at our disposal are not only available, but they are also very important.
available, but above all professional and reliable. In Southeast Asia, the project relies on resources from Thailand and Vietnam, among others.
The approach is always that of "faire-faire". The workshops are led and supervised by professional artists from the countries in question, who live in Luxembourg. They pass on their
expertise and coordination, i.e. ASTI and ASTM organize and monitor the workshops.
Artists run cultural or artistic workshops, in which young people learn about southern cultures through playful activities. Often, associations of third-country nationals come to animate and, above all, sensitize young people to the realities in their own countries and the reasons that lead to a "cultural divide".
to migrate.
Network / partnership
The Ateliers des Cultures are run jointly by ASTI and ASTM. Coordination is provided by the two NGOs, which work together
in synergy. With their different logics and baggage, the two NGOs meet at the level of crop workshops, which enable them to
capitalize on know-how, experience and a wide range of knowledge.
Organization objectives
Ateliers des Cultures aims to deconstruct prejudice and fear of the Other. This overall objective will be achieved through the partial objective of introducing young people to the multitude and richness of southern cultures. Through cultural learning, young people will become familiar with the cultures and realities of developing countries. Young people will come away from the workshops with a wealth of knowledge about southern cultures, at artistic, cultural, political and social levels. In addition to the richness of these cultures, the Ateliers
inform young people about migration and the reasons for it.
